Not only are we a traditional farmers market and friendly community gathering place with a focus on fresh local food, farm-related products, & artisan goods; but we're also a 501(c)(3) non-profit run by volunteers helping out local community! Live musicians and yoga in season in our beautiful courtyard. Grilled heirloom meats, coffee bar, pastries, other ready-to-eat food items. Something new every week!
We're run entirely by volunteers who love Portsmouth, and we love showing our city off to new friends! There is ALWAYS something happening in Olde Towne. Check our Facebook page weekly for an updated list of vendors and what special activities will be happening each Saturday. We update our page every Thursday evening. See what it's all about!
We are a year-round "rain or shine" market, and only close for a few weeks around the holidays. We will (rarely) postpone until Sunday if there is dangerous weather. Winter hours are from 10am to 2pm from November to April, and Summer hours 9am to 2pm from April through October. We are kid-friendly, pet friendly, and welcoming to all! Come on out and hang out as long as you like, and "Go Different!"
Brothers is a third-generation, family-owned farm! During the spring they specialize in fresh produce, eggs, honey and cheese. During the fall, in addition to their great produce at the Portsmouth Olde Towne Farmers Market, they specialize in on-site events including their pumpkin patch, corn maze, kids activities, sunflowers and more! During the winter they specialize in a wide variety of winter vegetables, eggs, cheese, and other produce. Stop by and say hi to Bobby and Lisa!
Deerehaven Farm is a small, natural family farm based in Spring Grove, Virginia. They specialize in growing healthy & unique produce using organic methods. Come on down and meet Chip, who will say "know where your food comes from!" and "if the bugs won't eat it, why would you!?" :)
Local farmer Michael Powell and his family take great pride in their farm-grown produce, and also bring goose eggs, duck eggs, chicken eggs, peanuts, and pecans. All produce is in season, and his selections varies weekly.
Dave Adams is the proud descendant of many generations of Chesapeake Bay Watermen, right down to his local Watermen accent. He says, "I know every place in the Chesapeake to spot fish. Growing up, Scott's Creek was in its heyday then, teeming with foul-mouthed Watermen loading oysters, crabs, and fish to be hauled out of the city's Park View section. Russell's Crab House was my family business. Local families and local Watermen who worked the water know the Russells as well by deed as by reputation."
Cornucopia North is a Dexter cattle farm and breeder supplying breeding stock and beef from nearby Isle of Wight, Virginia. Not only do they sell you beef cuts to take home, they also grill on the spot! Come enjoy some grass-fed beef burgers, sausage egg & cheese biscuits, and a full range of Dexter beef cuts to take home & grill or roast! Also, locally raised honey in season and eggs!
A regenerative farm specializing in Berkshire hogs, Cornish Cross chickens, Broad Breasted Turkeys and grassfed Dexter cattle. Come down and meet local shipbuilder Randy Fulcher and family, and hear about their farm. Their livestock are rotated on pasture, one behind the other, to ensure parasites are controlled and soil is fertilized by the animals themselves. This allows for very little outside input. No medications, fertilizer, or other outside stimulation is necessary. Their farm is as close to nature as you can get inside a fence.
Portsmouth Master Gardeners Association is a non-profit 501(c)(3) program supporting the work of the Virginia Tech Master Gardener program. They are a unique group of volunteers who work under the guidance of VCE to provide unbiased, research-based, environmentally sound horticulture information. Master Gardeners volunteer in a variety of ways to educate and assist citizens with fruit, vegetable and landscape gardening, water quality and tree health.
We love our customers, so feel free to visit during normal business hours.
